Our military academy
As we wrap up our second week since coming back from Spring Break, I find no better time to write about not only my experiences during break, but also the overall spirit of the corps as we return for one last stretch.
It really is a little mind boggling to notice how much change a week can make. More on my personal experiences a little later, for now let’s talk about the corps. It’s a little easy for everybody to get a bit riled up when we come back, because you know… THERE ARE ONLY TWO MONTHS LEFT! Still though, we all need to be able to remember that the school year is not over until the cannon is fired on May 27th, and although it is very easy for many graduating cadets to experience Senioritis, we can’t lose focus. Here is when cadets tend to believe that they can get crazier than ever because they feel as if the year is already over. We all need to remember to keep our minds straight and focus on finishing strong on what has so far been a great year. I would also go on to write endlessly about designations, but I will save that for a different post later, (you have no idea how dramatic it can be). Now on to my personal experiences from break! As always, we have great expectations for what a break is going to be, and we have so many things we’ll do and plans to execute, yet for some reason things always go a little different. Still, most of our spring break went mostly according to plan and it was as amazing as we had all imagined. We were roughly 30 cadets who went to Monterrey, and thanks to MMA, we got really good at coordinating our plans and we had the time of our lives. We went out to dinner, we went sightseeing, did barbecues, pool parties and even went to a soccer game. Many of the visiting cadets actually are now applying to universities in Monterrey because of how much they loved the city. As far as breaks go, it was a one in a lifetime experience. For many of us, it may be the last time we’re all “normal kids” together. Upon graduating, we’ll all go separate paths, and that made this experience so much more special Now, for one of the personal statements I’ve written in this blog, I’d like to tell you a little about my Spring Break and the huge turn of events that happened in a week. Although I spent a lot of time with my MMA brothers, I was able to spend a lot of time with my family and even with some of my old friends. What that made me realize is that many times we are focused on the most tribal and non-important things, we lose a sense on what really matters, and what our priorities are. This break was a little eye opening for me. We all had a deep talks and I personally was able to come to peace with a lot of mistakes I’d made and relationships that I had damaged, predominantly those with some of my brothers. I realized that our brotherhood is one of the most important things that I have in my life, and wasting my time with them was something I would regret later. I was able to notice so many things I was doing wrong, and doing that in Mexico, in my home town, made it all a little more special to me. So never ever doubt the power of spring break, for when they say it may be life altering, they are not kidding. Also, to my fellow brothers and members of the corps, remember we’re almost done, don’t make any mistakes that you might regret. It’s April now, and any mistakes you make now carry a lot more weight. Remember people, positive vibes!
